Anti-Virus Administration

Use the Anti Virus Administration page to enable IMail Anti-Virus and to specify what to do with infected files.

To enable the anti-virus, complete the following steps:

  1. Make sure the following fields contain entries. They should contain values by default, if they are empty fill them in.

Server IP. The IP address of the computer on which the anti-virus is installed.

Server Port. The port that you want the anti-virus to run on. The default port is 7777.

Note: If you change the IP Address or the Port number after installation, you must also change this setting in the configuration file (csymscan.cfg). For more information see the IMail Anti-Virus Setup Guide.

  1. Select Enable Virus Scanning to begin scanning mail for viruses. If it is cleared, infected files WILL be delivered as normal.

  2. Set the following optional settings:

Repair Infected Files. Select this option if you want IMail Anti-Virus to attempt to repair an infected message by removing the infected portion and creating a new file containing the repaired message. The initial infected file will be deleted.

Pass File by Name. If IMail Anti-Virus is installed on the same computer as IMail Server, select this option to increase performance. If IMail Anti-Virus is installed on a remote server, do not select this option.

  1. Select one of the following Infected File Actions that determines what occurs when a file is infected.

Bounce. Sends a bounce message to the sender, informing them that the message could not be delivered.

Redirect. If a message cannot be repaired, and this option is selected, it will be redirected to the address entered into the "Redirect Address" box.

Delete. The infected message in not delivered and is deleted from the spool directory.

Redirect Address. If you selected Redirect, enter the address to which infected message will be sent. The e-mail address does not have to be an IMail Server account.

  1. Configure notifications for infected messages:

Alert Recipients. Sends an e-mail to the intended recipients informing them that the message was redirected, or deleted due to virus infection.

Alert Administrator. Sends an e-mail alert to the address entered in the Alert Address box, alerting them to an infected file. One e-mail is sent for each infected file and contains the following information: the sender, the recipient, the message ID, Subject, Virus Detected, and the Action taken.

Alert Address. Enter an address here if you selected the Alert Administrator option. This address will receive an e-mail containing details if the anti-virus detects an infected file.

  1. Click Save to update your changes and activate virus scanning.
